Each participant will get several opportunities to speak in front of the group about easy topics and get feed back
For instance:
Easy topic: Greet your audience, say what your favourite colour is and why, give thanks and say good bye
Speed Speaker: “Hello there, how are you? (waiting for the answer with a great smile) I am happy to talk to you. I am here to tell you that my favourite colour is green because it’s the colour of the plants, the colour of hope, the colour of life! Thank you for your attention, see you later. Bye!
Feed back by the group: “You looked enthusiastic and confident... really engaging way of talking, you grabbed our attention...”
Speed speaker “I felt so nervous!”
Group: “It didn’t show at all!”
Me: “Obviously you’ve already great qualities, even if you felt nervous, you talked in a warm and engaging way and it was a pleasure for everybody to learn that green is your favourite colour! The use of the repetition of the word “colour” was powerful, well done! Also, I have noticed that unlike last time, you did wait for the audience to answer to you when you asked them “how are you?”
Now, I suggest that you do it again, this time make more eye contact with us without forgetting those who sit on the sides – make everyone feel involved. Also, try to make a pause before you say the word “green”, maintain on second of suspense and emphasize the word “green” Say “My favourite colour is .... green” as if you were saying “Ladies and gentleman.... the King !” Can you do that now?
The Speed Public Speaker practises the exercise
Me: “Have you felt the difference? Ok ! Thank you, next person. Last time you told us that you’re a fan of DIY. Tell us three qualities that are essential to the DIY practitioner. As usual start by engaging with the audience, smile, make eye contact, and for this time, ask them their attitude towards DIY – Do they love it? Do they hate it? Then follow with the three qualities.”
Etc...
Later on in the session, some participants may do prepared speeches...if they have prepared some!
It’s warm, it’s friendly, it’s challenging sometimes, it’s exiting, and it’s wonderful...
